Remnant
- A remaining, usually small part, quantity, number, or the like
- A fragment or scrap
- A small, unsold or unused piece of cloth, lace, etc., as at the end of a bolt
- A trace; vestige
Jeremiah 40:11-12
11 Likewise, when all the Jews who were in Moab, among the Ammonites, in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, 12 then all the Jews returned out of all places where they had been driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruit in abundance
Isaiah 10:20-22
20 “And it shall come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel, and such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, Will never again depend on him who defeated them, but will depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.
22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, A remnant of them will return; The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
REMAINDER WHO WILL BE THE REMINDER OF GOD
Why God always have a remnant?
- Remind that God do not forget His people
- Reset Judah (praise) to rise from ashes (tragedy) Jer. 42:19
- Return after repentance to the promised land- Isa. 10:20-22
- Recalibrate the land to be fruitful again
- Represent His faithfulness
- Reflect His righteousness
1 Samuel 16:10-11
10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.”
11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
EXCESS BUT NOT USELESS THAT BRINGS OUT THE BEST
- HURT by the situation but God looks at the heart
- FORGOTTEN but not forsaken
- REJECTED by men but mightily accepted by God
- LEAN on God not on men
- LEFT OVER that has a story to tell
Zephaniah 3:12
But I will leave within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the Lord.
Judges 7:6-7 300 Warriors of Gideon
6 And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.
7 Then the Lord said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”

ROMANS 11:5
Even so then, at this present time, there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.* But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.”
GROUP ELECTED FOR GRACE TO MANIFEST
- Walk with God to find favor – Noah
- Obedience brings remnant above the catastrophe – Gen. 6:8
- Covenant will be established
- Gifts will manifest in the time of crisis
- God uses the remnant to make a statement
- Blessings instead of captivity
Jeremiah 42:10-14
10 ‘If you will still remain in this land, then I will build you and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up. For I relent concerning the disaster that I have brought upon you. 11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not be afraid of him,’ says the Lord,’for I am with you, to save you and deliver you from his hand. 12 And I will show you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and cause you to return to your own land. 13 “But if you say, ‘We will not dwell in this land,’ disobeying the voice of the Lord your God, 14 saying, ‘No, but we will go to the land of Egypt where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor be hungry for bread, and there we will dwell’.
Genesis 3:14-15
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

- EXTRAVAGANT remnant – Isaiah 28:5
Zechariah 8:11-12
11 “But now I will not treat the remnant of my people as I treated them before, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
12 For I am planting seeds of peace and prosperity among you. The grapevines will be heavy with fruit. The earth will produce its crops, and the heavens will release the dew.
Once more I will cause the remnant in Judah and Israel to inherit these blessings.
NEW BREED FOR NEW BEGINNING
- Never to happen again – no more captivity, catastrophe and tragedy
- New beginning with never ending blessing – seed, ground, vine and heaven
- No limit under open heaven
- New facet of His Glory
Isaiah 28:5
In that day the Lord of hosts will be for a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of His people.
